I keep coming back to this because it reminds me of how fun my childhood really was. I remember wishing to grow up but now I’m 18 and wishing I could turn back time. Sharplane was definitely a fun experience!

I am so glad that i came across this channel a few days ago. Admittedly, i was not so interested with the episodes which talked much more about art in general. I have painted for years, and a few years ago, got interested in working mostly in sketchbooks focusing more on sketching/drawing. I enjoyed the simplicity of the practice not having to deal with the messy oils. But lately, i got more and more interested in the exercise of the mere moving of the hands, eye and hand coordination, etc which are employe in drawing. And am hugely getting more and more interested in moving away from the result. I am happy that there are actually more people involved in sketching communities, but still, the emphasis is still on the result. To produce fantastic drawings at the end. Of course, in time, since it is a skill, eventually there is improvement. Actually there is improvement every time engages in the skill. To focus more on the movement of the hands which is beneficial, i devote a separate notebook, very cheap paper, just to move the pen or pencil on the page, whether it is with shapes drawing an object/person/place or with writing. Beause basically, writing is drawing. I have thought of getting people to start journal writing or diary writing again, or even write letters again, but what if one does not have much to write about? So i would encourage people to just get anything to copy and write. Copy lyrics of favourites songs, or copy what's written on a can of soup, or something. When i was a student, my way of studying was to write down notes in detail, or copy a textbook. All good for retention of data. One does not have to be a great writer to start writing by hand again. Just copy any text. I believe all these drawing, even drawing with one's finger on the air (just like how we teach toddlers to get familiar with the shape of a letter) somehow is deeply connected to a strengthening of that neural connection. Sorry for the long comment. Just my thoughts for some time now. So happy to listen to this episode.

That's why they wanted to remove art classes at one time from American schools "destroy creativity" conform no critical thinking aloud. I think ART should be mandatory not an elective in school.

'Drawing' has been undervalued as a communication tool...in the construction field, the casual sketch cuts out tons of errors and wasted time. It allows a fuller participation of all stakeholders...or students in a learning workshop. The pen and paper remains a simple and powerful opportunity to share eachother's ideas. Thanks for sharing.

I have always drawn fir as long as I can remember, maybe that is why I strove to become a Draughtsman. Now retired I sketch every day

Art classes on schools are getting worse and worse, especially in small schools where budgeting is mainly promoting sports. We have 2,000 sports teams but one arts class with low quality(old) supplies. Not to mention it’s in the elementary building. The high school doesn’t even have an arts class. It’s all really sad to me, and all of that is the same with the music class. No choir, no actual singing, just nine keyboards and 20 people in the class.
